North Carolina's historical program, founded in 1903, evolved into the current Office of Archives and History. The agencies of the North Carolina Office of Archives and History celebrate history from pre-colonial times to the present. They collectively safeguard documentary and material evidence of earlier generations. The Office provides leadership and assistance to government agencies, individuals, businesses and organizations to further the stewardship of the state's historic resources.
The Division of Archives and Records, Division of Historical Resources, Division of State Historic Sites and Division of State History Museums--all part of the Office--preserve, document and interpret North Carolina’s rich cultural heritage. Click the links below for more information on each.
